Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a turning body drive which can prevent wasteful wearing of a drum made of a photosensitive material, etc., and can start image formation rapidly. SOLUTION: A turning surface of a transfer belt 41 is formed with a plurality of reference marks 47 with respect to the running direction. The position of each reference mark 47 is stored, together with a running speed at that position of the turning surface detected by speed marks 46. The number of reference marks detected by a mark detection sensor SE2 is specified from the number of the reference marks counted by a mark detection sensor SE2 and the stored data is referred to by the number of the specified mark. Thereby, the turning position on the turning surface at the time when the specified reference mark is detected can be specified so as to control the rotating speed of the motor 45 (feed-forward control).
