PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically control the difference of effective lateral width dimensions between outside and inside pages. SOLUTION: Printing plate lines Hx1, Hx2, Hy1 and Hy2 showing the size of an entire printing plate and basic dimension lines Kx1, Kx2, Ky1 and Ky2 showing the basic dimension of a magazine are displayed on a display screen. Further, concerning two object pages to be spread side by side for performing layout work, folding number information is set for showing the number of folds counted from the outside of the magazine, a reduction parameter is set for showing the degree of reducing an effective dimension Lx of a page toward the inside of the magazine, and finish lines Sy1 and Sy2 are displayed for showing a small cutting position reducing the lateral width just for an offset quantity Q calculated on the basis of these items. The lateral width of design frames D1 and D2 showing an area to lay out images or characters is reduced just by the offset quantity Q. Numbers N1 and N2 are matched to the positions of the design frames D1 and D2.
