METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR MULTI-RESOLUTION IMAGE DEFOCUSING

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sufficiently quickly perform defocusing calculation of relevant frame strings approximately in real time. SOLUTION: A system and a method for defocused image generation use sets of picture elements expressed as a multi-resolution pyramid of an input image to defocus the picture. Each pixel in the original image generates an area of confusion on the basis of image depth data of this pixel. Sets of picture elements are used in order to express an area of confusion by using picture elements of a higher resolution. The area of confusion of each pixel is decomposed to a set of picture elements, and sets of picture elements are synthesized or combined together, thereby generating the final defocused image.
