METHOD OF DETECTING CROSSING PERSON

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make precisely detectable a crossing person by discriminating the crossing person from a passerby, a passing vehicle or the like. SOLUTION: Ultrasonic waves are transmitted from, and received by, a passerby sensor 16. An object (a passing vehicle 16, a crossing person 20 or a passerby 22) inside a sensing region 160 is sensed. The object is sensed by the passerby sensor 16 at every prescribed time. The movement speed of the object is judged continuously. When the movement speed of the object is at a pretermined set speed (a reference speed) or lower, the object is judged to be the crossing person, and a sensing signal is output. In addition, when the movement speed of the object exceeds the set speed (the reference speed), the object is judged to be the passing vehicle 18, the passerby 22 or the like, and a sensing signal is not output. When the sensing signal is output, a signal light device for the passing person is changed over from red to blue on the basis of the signal, the turning-on time of a red signal light device is set to be short, and a changeover timing is changed.
