Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for producing an alcohol or an aldehyde by the reaction of a monoolefin with carbon monoxide and hydrogen while reducing the formation of by-products. SOLUTION: The present process contains a step (the 1st-stage reaction step) to react a monoolefin with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a cobalt carbonyl catalyst until the monoolefin conversion reaches 50-90%, a step (unreacted monoolefin separation step) to separate the unreacted monoolefin from the reaction product obtained in the 1st-stage reaction step and a step (the 2nd-stage reaction step) to react the separated unreacted monoolefin with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a cobalt carbonyl catalyst. At least one of the 1st-stage reaction step and the 2nd-stage reaction step is carried out in the presence of water. |
