PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an efficient mechanism, capable of being utilized also as a handy scanner by detaching a scanner device from a base device by confronting medium guides provided on the scanner device and the base device, arranging them so as to be gradually narrow toward a medium drawing port and providing at least one medium guide with a level difference part so as to limit the inflow of a medium toward the medium drawing port step by step. SOLUTION: Two paper guides 32 and 33 are arranged face to face, so as to gradually narrow toward a lower paper drawing port 35, and even if plural pieces of paper are set, few sheets of paper are automatically narrowed at the top end. When there are a large number of papers to be set, jamming occurs easily because of the pressure of paper, but by providing a level difference part 34 in the middle of the paper guide 32 in dealing with this problem, the pressure at the top end of paper is released partially so that pressure can be prevented from being concentrated in the paper drawing port 35. Moreover, the level difference part has a smooth inclination so as to slide paper down toward the paper drawing port 35.
