Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an MR head showing excellent output voltage characteristics by initializing the magnetic orientation of a pin layer by using an optimum pulse current according to the structure of the magnetic head after a wafer process. SOLUTION: After a thin film magnetic head having a spin valve element 9 is produced, a specified pulse current is applied through a lead 10 on the spin valve element 9 to initialize the magnetic orientation of a pin layer 9c. The pulse current used has enough amplitudes and duration time necessary to magnetically orient the pin layer 9c in a specified direction by the magnetic field produced by the pulse current applied in the nonmagnetic conductive layer 9b, and the current has such a waveform that essentially attenuates.
