SEDIMENTATION SPEED MEASURING METHOD AND ITS DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an erthyrocyte sedimentation rate measuring technique capable of measuring the sedimentation rate of erythrocytes of a patient who requires emergent medical treatment in an approximately quarter of time in comparison with a conventional method and capable of measuring the sedimentation rate of erythrocytes of a baby from whom it is impossible to collect a large amount of blood. SOLUTION: An erythrocyte sedimentation rate measuring liquid is housed in a test container 1 placed in a tilted state at a predetermined tilt angle. When light is projected at the test container 1, the light transmitted through the test container 1 is detected by a line sensor LS to compute the locations of the interfaces between the liquid level of blood plasma, blood plasma, and a layer of blood cells to obtain the depth size of the blood plasma. An erythrocyte sedimentation rate is computed from the depth size of the blood plasma and measuring time.
