Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lubricant for hot rolling which prevents melt adhesion between a rolling tool and a material to be rolled and does not cause clogging of a nozzle. SOLUTION: A lubricant contains (a) a sodium borate compound (diethanolamine borate and the like), (b) a water soluble or alkali soluble resin (an isobutylene-maleic acid anhydride copolymer) and (c) water, the component (a) and the component (b) being dissolved in a medium. When a total of the lubricant is 100 pts.wt., the content of the component (a) is 20 to 50 pts.wt. preferably 30 to 37 pts.wt. and the content of the component (b) is 2 to 15 pts.wt., preferably 3 to 10 pts.wt., further preferably 3 to 6 pts.wt., respectively. The viscosity of the lubricant at 25 deg.C is 30 to 2,000 cP, preferably 30 to 1,000 cP, more preferably 40 to 300 cP.
