TAPE POSITIONING DEVICE FOR MAGNETIC TAPE DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the data which are preliminarily written on a magnetic tape from being destroyed even when a magnetic tape device fails to start up a magnetic tape drive at the time of the writing operation of the magnetic tape drive and to prevent an IBG length from being deviated from a specification value. SOLUTION: This tape positioning device makes a magnetic drive 3 so as to suspend a write processing by providing a waiting time from a positioning completion report from the drive 3 till the starting of the writing of data to the magnetic tape 31 when the drive 3 is operated in a forward direction with respect to a positioning signal which is to be transmitted to the drive 3 as the control command of a magnetic tape controller 2 and also makes the drive 3 so as to be able to always restart at a preliminarily determined position by changing the transmitting position of the positioning signal in positionings of the forward direction and a reverse direction. Thus, even when the positioning completion report is erroneously sent, the data recorded on the tape 31 are prevented from being destroyed and the writing position of data in the writing operation to the tape 31 is prevented from being deviated.
