Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To resolve a difference in brightness between the peripheral part and the central part of a planar cathode-ray tube. SOLUTION: This color cathode-ray tube has a light-transmittable face plate 1 whose inside surface corresponding to an effective display surface for displaying an image is covered with a phosphor layer, a funnel 2 being joined to the back side of the face plate 1, and an electron gun 3 being placed at the rear end of the funnel 2 and emitting an electron beam against the phosphor layer. The face plate 1 is not less than 5000 mm in radius of curvature of its effective display surface, and is not less than 70% and not more than 95% in maximum visible-light transmissivity. The effective display surface is covered with a light-proof layer whose visible-light transmissivity is not less than 40% and not more than 60%.
