Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recognize a position of a carriage again by a minimum moving operation of the carriage without turning off a power supply even when carriage stall occurs during the printing. SOLUTION: This printer comprises a carriage motor 7 consisting of a stepping motor for reciprocating a carriage having an ink cassette loaded thereto, a photointerrupter 41 for outputting a detection signal when the carriage is positioned in a specific region including a home position, a control section 62 that controls to drive the carriage motor 7 using the detection signal from the photointerrupter 41 and a reset switch 65 that instructs a position recognizing operation for the carriage. The control section 62 allows the carriage to move to the home position in accordance with a reset signal from the reset switch 65 and presence or absence of the detection signal from the photointerrupter 41.
