Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processor which can detect the state of a device without disturbing the execution of an image processing operation. SOLUTION: A copying machine 3a comprises an original carrying part 500, a reading part 300 which reads the image of an original and generates the image data, a communication part (a memory unit 30, an external device connector 90 and a communication circuit 2), a printer part 400 which forms an image on the recording paper according to the image data and a paper referring unit 600 which sends the paper ejected from an ejection rollers 87 back to a printer part P after switching back the paper as necessary. Then the machine 3a performs the self-diagnostic processing to detect the state of its component element that is not active, and this self-diagnostic processing is carried out for every component element even when other component elements are active.
