Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recycle a waste polyethylene terephthalate into a resource and to obtain an ester oil comprising a terephthalic acid diester useful as a material for a lubricating oil and a plasticizer having excellent utility as a main component by transesterifying a polyethylene terephthalate with an alcohol having a specific boiling point under normal pressure. SOLUTION: A polyethylene terephthalate(PET) is transesterified with a monohydric alcohol (e.g. octanol, ethylene glycol monobutyl ether, etc.), having >=170 deg.C boiling point under normal pressure to give the objective ester oil. The monohydric alcohol in an amount of 2.5 to 8 times molar amount is added to a terephthalic acid unit in the PET. Antimony trioxide may be cited a catalyst.
