FLAT IMAGE DISPLAY DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably provide a flat image display device which has high reliability. SOLUTION: A flat image display device has a vacuum envelope, that is constructed of a pair of a phosphor substrate (face plate 109) provided with a phosphor 107 on one surface of a transparent substrate and a lighting substrate (rear plate 101), formed with a lighting part that lights the phosphor 107. In the device, an area of the lighting substrate (rear plate 101) is made larger than that of the phosphor substrate (face plate 109). It is possible to easily to cause a voltage and a current to be applied to an electrode because this image display device has an outer extraction electrode only at the rear plate 101, so as to face a prober or the like only to the rear plate 101 from above at the current carrying. A uniform image can also be displayed, because imperfect contact of the electrode part is practically removed.
