PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance uniformity of the electron emission characteristic of an electron source and an image forming device where a plurality of electron emission elements are wired and connected. SOLUTION: In this electron source having a plurality of electron emission elements formed on a substrate 1101, each of the electron emission elements comprises a pair of first electrodes 1102, 1103 formed on the substrate 1101 and is provided with a second electrode 1114, which is formed apart from the first electrodes 1102, 1103 by a predetermined distance and to which emitted electrons reaches. When current-carrying activation is performed in order to increase the emitted electrons, an emission current produced by the emitted electrons is detected, the current-carrying activation corresponding to each one of the electron emission elements is performed, based on the detected emission current.
