Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently producing iron carbide by positively utilizing carbon monoxide as a carbonizing reaction gas component. SOLUTION: The iron carbide is produced by performing a 1st reaction operation for reducing a part of an iron-containing fine particle raw material charged into a 1st fluidized layer furnace 10, and after that, performing a 2nd reaction operation for applying the remainder of reduction and carbonization to the partially reduced iron-containing fine particle raw material in a 2nd fluidized layer furnace 30. The 1st reaction operation is performed with a reduction gas consisting essentially of hydrogen and the 2nd reaction operation is performed with a reducing and carbonizing gas mainly containing hydrogen, carbon monoxide and methane.
