Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject agent that can inhibit the steep increase of blood sugar level after the meal to reduce the load on the pancreatic β-cells, can be utilized in the dietary therapy for patients with insulin-independent diabetes and can reduce the absorption of blood sugar after loading of glucose by using Cirsium martimum Makino and/or its extract. SOLUTION: The objective blood sugar increase suppressor comprises Cirsium maritimum Makino and/or its extract. The active ingredient is preferably cirsimarin represented by the formula. The extract is obtained by using water, ethanol or the like as a solvent. The deily dose of this hypoglyemic agent is >=1.0 g/kg body weight as the dried solid of the plant, while the dose is >=10 mg/kg body weight in the case of the extract. This inhibitor is given to the patients in the preparation form of a liquid dispersion, a soft extract or the like, further excipient, adjuvant and the like may be admixed into powder, granules and the like.
