PRODUCTION OF ARYLPYRIDINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound useful as a precausor of an active compound in an agricultural field economically advantageously, in a technically simple style and in a high purity by reacting a specific halopyridine with a specific arylgrignard compound in the presence of a specific palladium catalyst. SOLUTION: This method for producing an arylpyridine of formula IV (preferably 2-phenylpyridine) is to react a halopyridine of formula I (R1a to R4a are each H, a 1-12C alkyl or the like; Hal is chlorine or the like) with an arylgrignard compound of formula II (R5a to R9a are each H, a 1-12C alkyl or the like) (e.g.; phenylmagnesium chloride) in the presence of a palladium catalyst of formula III (R1 to R8 are H, a 1-4C alkyl or the like; Y is an anion of an organic acid) [preferably 1,1'-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene palladium(II) chloride].
