Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling a mechanical automatic transmission for a vehicle to convert the shift point of a transmission to a function by sensing manual operation of an engine brake system and/or a foot brake system. SOLUTION: In a method for controlling down shift of a mechanical type automatic transmission 10 for a vehicle provided with a manual operation type engine brake and a manual operation type foot brake, an engine speed ESD/S for which down shift operation is commanded senses operation of an engine brake EB and a foot brake FB and converted into its function.
