Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator admitting installation of a drive device near the bottom of a hoistway likely to generate water intrusion and capable of reducing the time and costs required to make construction compared with a conventional arrangement where drive device is located at the top of the hoistway. SOLUTION: A base block 10 is installed on the bottom surface 8a of a hoistway 8, and a hoist 6 is installed on the block 10. Also on the bottom surface 8a, a shock absorber 9 is installed for absorbing shocks applied to an elevator car 1. The height of the base block 10 where the winch 6 is installed should preferably be possible maximum within the condition that the level of the oversurface of the winch 6 is below the level of the shock absorber 9 when its working rods 9a, 9a are in the shortest in the stroke.
