Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply and inexpensively obtain the subject epoxybutyric ester that is useful as an intermediate for organic chemical products or the like by optically resolving the enantiomer mixture of trans-2,3-epoxybutyric ester by using a protease. SOLUTION: As a protease, is used an enzyme that is produced by a microorganism in Bacillus, Aspergillus, Staphylococcus or the like to hydrolyze the enantiomer mixture of trans-2,3-epoxybutyric ester represented by the formula (R1 is a 1-18C straight or branched alkyl or alkenyl which may be substituted with halogen atoms or an aromatic substituent) whereby the optical resolution of the ester can be attained to simply and economically obtain the objective (2S,3R)-2,3-epoxybutyric ester that is very useful as an intermediate for a variety of organic chemicals.
