SOLUTION: An operation deciding means 12 controls a tape driving means 14 through a tape traveling control means 13, and drives a feeding reel and a winding reel to allow a tape to travel at high speed. When the traveling of the tape to a prescribed position is determined by a cassette determining/tape position determining means 15, the speed is reduced to a prescribed speed, and the traveling is stopped at a tape end. At this time, based on the operation mode information of the cassette determination time or tape winding position information stored in a storage means 16, timing for starting speed reduction is changed.
