Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an excellent twist strength and twist fatigue strength characteristic as a drive shaft. SOLUTION: The raw material of this drive shaft is the steel containing C: 0.48-0.58%, Si: 0.01-0.15%, Mn: 0.35-0.75%, S: 0.005-0.15%, Mo: 0.1-0.35%, B: 0.0005-0.005%, Al: 0.015-0.05% and Ti: 0.02-0.08%. The ratio (t/r) between the effective hard layer depth (t) of the end of an involute serration and a radius (r) is 0.3-0.7. Or, further the drive shaft with a high strength is manufactured by forming the drive shaft with a high strength whose old austenite crystal grain of the end of the involute serration is 8 or more at JIS grain number and a steel with above components whose hardness is HR 85-95 is formed to a prescribed shape by cutting and rolling and then hardened by a high frequency and tempered at 120-200 deg.C. Thereby, the high strength drive shaft is manufactured.
