Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure the thickness of a quire supplied from a hopper to a conveyance device. SOLUTION: A 1st roller 24 and a 2nd roller 28 are so arranged as to form a nip for a 1st quire 20. The 1st roller 42 is fitted to a lever arm which is rotatable on a mandrel 34 and when the 1st quire 20 enters the nip, the 1st roller 24 rotates and moves around the mandrel 34. As the 1st roller 24 rotates and moves, a 1st reflecting element 24 fitted to the 1st shaft 26 of the 1st roller 24 changes in angle position and the direction of the reflected light 48 of the light beam 46 projected by a light source 44 changes. For the purpose, the position of incidence of the reflected light beam 48 on a 1st sensor element 38 is detected to measure the thickness of the 1st quire 20.
