Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make an accurate judgement of reverse rotation during starting without misjudgement during normal rotation by using a judgement value corresponding to the driven condition of an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: This device includes an intake pressure sensor 37 for detecting pressure in an intake passage 28 and an electronic controller (ECU) 41 for stopping an engine 11 in accordance with intake pressure PM detected by the intake pressure sensor 37. The ECU 41 stops the engine 11 when the intake pressure PM in the intake passage 28 exceeds a judgement value Ps as predetermined in consideration of a throttle opening TA (operating condition) of the engine 11. As a result, a variable judgement value Ps can be adopted in response to the throttle opening TA when the engine 11 is reversely rotated, so that accurate judgement can be made when the engine 11 is reversely rotated. The stop of engine can thus be ensured during reverse rotation.
