PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use a long illumination device along a handrail to obtain a sufficient light quantity so as to contrive the improvement of safety by providing the illumination device along the handrail downward of the handrail. SOLUTION: An illumination device 4 is provided along a handrail downward 1 supported by a plurality of columns 2. The illumination device 4 attaches a fluorescent lamp on a cross section L-shaped body, the projection piece of a gutter-like translucent resin-made cover is inserted in the receiving body of the body, an attaching screw is inserted in the attaching hole of the cover, and screwed in the screw hole of the attaching piece of the body to be attached to the body so as to be constituted. Thereby the long illumination device 4 can be used along the handrail 1, and a sufficient quantity of light can be obtained. In addition, since the illumination device 4 is provided along the handrail 1 downward of the handrail 1, one's feet is lightened and passing can be safely performed.
