Zusammenfassung: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flat panel display which is capable of drastically increasing the resolution of a reproduced image and uses an optical waveguide exceedingly high in optical efficiency and having a very wide angle of visibility. SOLUTION: The flat panel display is provided with an optical fiber 23, on which light is made incident from a light source, an optical fiber array substrate 24 formed of a substance having a low refractive index and intended for entirely reflecting a light propagated along the optical fiber 23, a liq. crystal layer 22 formed of a substance, the refractive index of which is increased by an electric field, plural cylindrical optical fibers 21, in which the light is refracted and outputted to outside when the light propagated into the optical fiber 23 by the increase of the refractive index of the liq. crystal layer 22 by the electric field is transmitted through the liq. crystal layer 22 and is outputted, a first electrode 25 formed of a transparent conductive material, to which a prescribed control voltage (+V) is applied, and a second electrode 26 formed of a conductive material, which forms the electric field in cooperation with the first electrode 25. A protective panel 20 made of a transparent material is bonded to the optical fibers 21 with an optical adhesive 27. |
