Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a catalyst for purification of exhaust gases capable of additionally suppressing sulfur poisoning of an NOx occlusion material and maintaining a high NOx purification rate even after a durability test. SOLUTION: This catalyst comprises a carrier contg. Al2O3, a noble metal 1 deposited on the carrier, the NOx occlusion material 2 and an oxide layer of at least one metal selected from Si, Ti, Zr, W, Nb, Fe and Mo formed on the surface not deposited with the noble metal 1 and the NOx occlusion material 2. The adsorption of SOx is suppressed and the occlusion and reduction effect of NOx is accelerated by the presence of the oxide layer.
