METHOD FOR EXTENDING ABILITY OF PING FUNCTION IN INTERCONNECTION BETWEEN OPEN SYSTEMS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an abnormality state from being reported only for a reason that a destination system is provided with no connectionless network protocol(CLNP) echo ability by including a stage to analyze the result of a CLNP echo request protocol data unit(PDU) to explain information provided by a route recording function and an error reporting function in a requesting system when no exact answer is received from the destination system by the requesting system. SOLUTION: When no exact answer is received from the destination system by the requesting system, the stage to analyze the result of the CLNP echo request PDU to explain the information provided by the route recording function and the error reporting function is included in the requesting system. When the error reporting function and the route recording function become usable, the CLNP echo requesting PDU is issued to the destination system 11 by a CLNP echo function. Interpretation of the answer from the destination system 11 is transmitted to an OSI ping analyzing function 16, where the information is inspected and an integrated report is provided to a user interface 12 by an OSI stack CLNP function.
