The invention in question relates to an expresso coffee machine for family, bar or other uses, having a particular shape which has various advantages. It is provided with an infusion chamber which is expandable as a result of an upper sliding filter-holder which makes it possible to make better use of the dose of ground coffee and to produce a cream of superior quality. The water is heated while it runs towards the infusion chamber by means of an open duct heat exchanger which replaces the normal heater. The build-up of calcium is reduced in this way, improving the hygiene, safety and performance of the machine and the quality of the product obtained. The coffee container which acts as the infusion chamber is inserted into the heat exchanger body from beneath.
