The method comprises: making previous measurements to determine the relationship (function) between the physical characteristics influencing the technological process and the intensity and/or spectrum of the sound emitted during the process; storing said function, its critical points or limits being characteristic of the technological process; sensing the intensity or spectrum of the sound emitted during the technological process; comparing said measurement with the stored function; and intervening in the technological process if there is a difference from said function, eg the critical points have been reached. The arrangement comprises: a sound sensor (1) eg a microphone; a measuring and evaluating unit (7) connected to the output of the sound sensor (1); and an output device (8) connected to the output of the measuring and evaluating unit (7), the output device modifying the process in response to signals from the measuring and evaluation unit.
