Zusammenfassung:	The system includes: (a) a refrigerating agent source (2); (b) a spray unit (4) with spray head for projecting the refrigerating agent onto the heated surface, and; (c) means (6,10,14) for transferring the refrigerating agent from the source to the projection system. The spray head is an integral part of the breech block of the artillery piece. The spray head is only uncovered when the breech block is open after firing of a shell. The spray head is fitted to a movable part designed to move into the breech block region as soon as it is open and to move away from it before shell reloading. Coolant is intermittently sprayed inside the gun barrel a controller (27) controls the periodicity of spraying and the spray time periods and its flow. The coolant transfer system includes a pump (10) and gas/liquid pressure chamber (14) and control valve (6). The pump transfer the coolant from the source (12) via the pressure chamber, through the valve to the spray (4). The energy from the recoil system of the artillery piece is used to pressurize the chamber (14).
