Zusammenfassung:In the event of a road accident, the user of a motor vehicle is thrown from the seat of the vehicle. To protect the user a garment 1 is provided comprising: at least one thick inflatable surface volume 3; an apparatus 5 for rapidly producing inflation gas to create a pneumatic structure of adequate thickness around the parts of the body to be protected by the garment. A connection 7, 9 between the said apparatus and the vehicle triggers the apparatus 5 just prior to the connection 7 being broken, in the event of a sudden separation of the body from the vehicle.
