Context - the sawing of granite slabs. Sawing is currently performed using conventional abrasive fabrics comprising a metal abrasive dispersed in a slurry mixture which is circulated by large pumps. These on average have a hundred iron blades and progress through the granite at 2 cm/hour requiring on average 50-100 hours per block. The very few diamond blade fabrics have other parameters: sawing rate 15-30 cm/hour, but high costs of the diamond sawtooth blades which is why they are used to process granite thickesses of 10-20 cm, thus lowering through the costs in the volume of sawing. These machines are much simpler to operate because they only require a little water to cool the blades and offer very smooth cutting surfaces which are very easy to polish. Any improvement in the service life of the blades is welcome, in addition to the enormous cutting speed.
