Zusammenfassung:Ceramic components formed by silicon carbide/silicon metal are prepared by means of a process in which the infiltration of liquid silicon and its solidification in a porous body containing carbonaceous material are so controlled as to prevent the defects from occurring, which derive from the change in specific volume taking place during the phase change of the same silicon. The so obtained ceramic components are very compact, with defects of very small size, and display high values of flexural strength.
