Zusammenfassung:	The present invention relates to a method and device for masking a target using a smoke producing material, to combat observation in the electromagnetic radiation domain. The device comprises a fluid-tight enclosure (22) which contains a powder (55) whose grain size is selected such that it absorbs contrast at least in the infra-red and/or visible range after dispersion in the ambient air, and means of propulsion (50) capable of propelling the powder (55) outside of the enclosure (22) in order to spread out that powder between the target and the observation post and means of actuating (41A-46) capable of initiating the functioning of the propulsion means.
