Zusammenfassung:	A furnace for use in the ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy and in glass melting consists of a hearth, sides and roof of refractory brickwork, and has current conducting elements arranged in the brickwork and emerging on its inner surface below and above the level of the melt, joined to the plus and minus pole of a d.c. source, respectively. In addn., current carrying elements are submerged in the brickwork below the inner surface and are connected to the poles opposite the exposed elements.
