The tyre comprises a tubular carcase 2 receiving an air chamber 3, protected by an external protection strip 6 on the rim side, and by a tread strip 4 towards the portion of the tyre in contact with the ground, which tread strip is formed from one or more protective strips 5 and continuous canvasses 1 covering the surface of the carcase 2 in correspondence with the tread strip 4 and extending as far as the protection strip 6.
