The manufacture of a body by moulding under pressure and high temp. is described. The material used is a mixt. of rubber particles and plastic. The molecular chains of the rubber and plastic are crosslinked. Used for the manufacture of e.g. harbour bollards from e.g. used tyres. Specifically rubber tyres are converted into fibres no more than 5 mm. long and are mixed with a solvent to free the molecular chains. This soln. is then added to the desired plastic together with a vulcanising agent such as sulphur. When the solvent evaporates, the molecular chains of the rubber and plastic are left interwound to give mechanical bond between them. The material, as granules, can be heated and moulded into chosen shape. Provisional basic advised week D30.
