Zusammenfassung:	Image analysing method and system, and in particular method and system for analysing X-ray radioscopic images of the contents of an article of mail to detect the presence of improvised explosive devices (IED's). The system comprises a CCTV camera to scan the image and provide video signals (CV), and signal processing means (1) to compare the level of said video signals (CV) with a predetermined threshold value and to provide an output pulse (D) when said signal intensity varies from a predetermined value as a measure of the extent of dark or light areas on the image, and in particular, as applied to the detection of IED's, to provide an output pulse (D) when the signal intensity is less than said predetermined threshold value, and means (4) to count said pulses for a particular zone on said image and provide an output signal (Y) indicative of the extent of dark areas on the image and as an indication of the presence of an IED.
