Zusammenfassung:	In the unit, a number of container tiers are arranged vertically one above another with each tier comprising outer and inner rails, guide channels arranged between them, and an endless traction chain. A series of stock containers are releasably secured to the traction chain, moving on and along the rails, so that any container may be reached most expeditiously by selectively operating each container conveying tier. The driving arrangement and track length are adjusted to compensate for wear in the traction chain. Each outer rail is of elliptical shape, having a pair of discrete straight sections extending parallel to each other, and a pair of discrete curvilinear sections, each connecting adjacent free ends of the straight sections.
