The invention provides a method for monitoring the process quality of a processing machine in the tobacco industry, comprising the following steps: preparing a raw material or semi-finished product in the processing machine, subjecting the raw material or semi-finished product to one or more processing steps that affect the same properties of the raw material or semi-finished product, the raw material or the processed semi-finished product is then subjected to an inspection step in order to determine at least one property thereof, and the temporary exclusion of each of said processing steps is performed periodically or in a controlled manner in order not to perform the processing operation in a normally planned mode over a time interval. During the step of temporarily excluding the processing step, an inspection step is started to determine the properties of the unprocessed raw material or semi-finished product, the properties of the unprocessed raw material or semi-finished product being analyzed, in order to obtain at least one item of information relating to the quality of the raw material or semi-finished product fed into the machine and/or to perform a calibration and/or correction process of the machine for determining the normativity of the processing performed.
