A conveyor for rod-shaped articles comprises a conveying surface provided with a succession of seats (4) for holding respective groups of segments (200) and for transversely advancing the groups of segments (200), wherein each suction seat (4) has a middle portion (4a) for receiving a middle segment (210) and a pair of opposite side portions (4b) for receiving respective side segments (220), wherein the conveyor (1) also comprises a pair of side compacting means (6) operating on the side portions (4b) of the seats (4) to progressively compact the side segments (220) towards the middle segment (210) as the conveying surface advances, and a pair of spacing guides (5; 5'; 5'') disposed between the middle portion (4a) and the side portions (4b) of the seats (4) to define a limit stop in the axial positioning of the side segments (220) and to set a predetermined distance between the middle segment (210) and the side segments (220).
