Per mantenere un ambiente riscaldato ad una prefissata temperatura di riferimento, viene ridotta la quantità di calore addotta da un fluido, riscaldato in una caldaia (1) di tipo autonomo a gas, ad uno o più scambiatori di calore (3) posti nell'ambiente con l'approssimarsi della temperatura ambiente alla temperatura di riferimento.
