The device has a spinning rotor 12 and a driven guide 4 in the shape of a ring, tube or the like, engaging coaxially into the spinning rotor 12, and whose inner surface 10 serves to deposit the fibres supplied and their transfer to the spinning rotor 12. Continuous holes 27 are provided in the bottom of the spinning rotor 12, by means of which interior spaces of the spinning rotor 12 and of the guide 4 are in communication with a first suction device 23. In order to extend the assortment of production also to worsted yarn types, the spinning rotor 12 and the guide 4 are surrounded, in the area of an intermediate gap 28 at least on one part of their outer circumference, corresponding to an intermediate section U of the path of movement S of the fibres 7 between the inner surface 10 of guide 4 and the inner surface l3 of the spinning rotor 4, by an air box which is open in relation to the intermediate gap 28 and connected to a second suction device 41.
