In colonic lavage operations, a speculum takes the form of an elongated tubular body having a tapered leading end provided with a pair of diametrically opposed apertures, and the major length of the body tapers rearwardly from the leading end into a trailing end which is coupled to a liquid delivery line from a source of liquid under pressure, and a control line is coupled to an opposite end of the delivery line to that of the speculum and which valve includes an elastic tubular liner and a pressure port positioned on an external surface of the valve which is in communication to the source of water under pressure, the valve being opened and closed in response to the differential pressure between the liquid in the pressure port and the speculum.
