Zusammenfassung:	In order to be able to remove material samples from fibrous materials which have been pressed together into a bale, without thereby damaging the packaging of the bale too much or requiring a removal device of costly construction, a device is proposed which is characterised in that a lance head sample taker having a head (1) which is mounted on a thrust rod (2) which is supported in a hollow shaft (3) in such a way that the position of both the head (1) and also of the thrust rod (2) is variable with reference to each other and with reference to a bearing on which it is supported, the head (1) being so formed that it captures a sample of fibrous material between itself and the hollow shaft (3) as soon as it has been thrust into a pressed-together, fibrous material mass, from which the sample is to be removed, in that the hollow shaft (3) or thrust rod (2) are moved in order to grasp the fibrous material sample between the head and the hollow shaft.
