Defective (e.g. sweet) packages are detected and sorted from quality packages by apparatus in which take-off grippers 3,3 min are pivotably arranged on one side of the region of action on a take-off wheel, on shafts 4,4 min , Fig. 2, coaxially opposite to which feeler levers 6, 6 min , Fig 3 are arranged on pivotably mounted shafts 5, 5 min , in each case on one of the grippers 3,3 min a lever arm 11, Fig. 2 is secured, the presser bolt 12 of which rests on a cam lever 13, which is fitted on a pivotably mounted shaft 14 arranged parallel to the shafts 4,4 min & 5,5 min and the cam roller 15 of the cam lever 13 is in operative connection with a cam disc 16 secured on spindle 17, and on each of the feeler levers 6,6 min there are arranged lever arms 18, 18 min , Fig. 3, the cam rollers 19, 19 min of which lie on the cam path of a cam disc 20, 21 associated with them and on the lever arms 18, 18 min there are fitted locking pawls 22, 23 which are in operative connection with an arresting lever 24 secured on the shaft. In operation, a defective passage allows feeler levers, 6, 6 min to close more than normal, and one or more locking pawls 22, 23 can be placed above or before the arresting lever 24. Lever arms 18, 18 min and thus cam lever 13 and cam roller 15, thus remain in the arrested position, and opening of grippers 3, 3 min take place after the delivery point of quality packages.
