Benzofuranyl carbamate(s) with low toxicity warm-blooded animals

2,2-Dimethyl- 2,3-dihydro- benzofuran-7-yl N- (R1R2N-S)-N-methyl- carbamates of formula (I) are new. In (I) R1,R2 each are -X-COOR3 or -Y-CN and R2 may also be 1-8C alkyl, 3-6C cycloalkyl, benzyl (opt. substd. by halo, 1-3C alkyl or 1-3C alkoxy), phenyl (opt. substd. by halo, 1-3C alkyl or 1-3C alkoxy) or -Z-R4; R3 is 1-8C alkyl or 3-6C cycloalkyl; X,Y each are 1-6C alkylene; Z is carbonyl or sulphonyl and R4 is 1-6C alkyl, phenyl, benzyl, 1-6C alkoxy or phenoxy. Used as an insecticide, miticide and nematocide, active against a wide range of pests, such as hemiptera, lepidoptera, coleoptera, diptera, thysanoptera, orthoptera, isopodes, acarien, tylenchides etc. (I) have similar activity to that of carbofuran (2,2-dimethyl 2,3-dihydro benzofuran-7- yl N-methyl carbamate) but have only 0.2-0.01 of its toxicity to warm-blooded animals. Specifically claimed are (I) where (a) R1 is ethoxycarbonylmethyl and R2 is ethoxycarbonylmethyl or methyl; (b) R1 is ethoxycarbonylethyl and R2 is isopropyl, n-butyl or cyclohexyl and (c) R1 is cyanoethyl and R2 is n-butyl.
